Updated: The Kedage font link works.
If it goes down again, here’s the font. Change the extension from “.odt” to “.dfont” before using it. Also, you need to copy it to “~/Library/Fonts/” to make it work. The font was created at IISc.
You can also get Telugu font from here.
I realized recently, I was not able to read web pages written in Kannada script on my Safari (And also, on anything else on Mac). Thanks to a comment written by Arun on this post.
I looked around and found quite a lot of entries pointing to this (In case you haven’t clicked on the link yet, it doesn’t work). The site has/had (I had a look at the cached version) Kannada fonts and keyboard which would have enabled me to read and write in Kannada on my Mac. But, as you may have tried, the link doesn’t work.
But, I did find a plugin for firefox (platform independent) which I used. It is called Padma. You could get Padma (the plugin ofcourse) from here.
I also found this site which did provide Kannada fonts and keyboard for Mac OS X, but you have to pay for it.
Here is a blog dedicated to reading and writing in non-english languages on Mac OS. Might be of some help.

…..”But, as you may have tried, the link doesn’t work.”
is not proper grammar.
….”You could get Padma (the plugin ofcourse) from here.”

“http://web.nickshanks.com/typography/kannada/” works for me
Kedage is a very beautiful and aesthatic font and moreover free!!!
You should also try ashwin kumar’s QWERTY kannada keyboard layout available in the same link, for fast kannada typing..
Enjoy..
[Rajesh] : Awesome! It works! Thanks for letting me know.
As you have noticed, running a website from your bedroom may be cheaper than professional hosting, but isn’t quite as reliable
The downtime was 6 days and was a result of a new DSL router not reassigning the same DHCP-allocated IP address to my computer after a power cut as it had had before (and the router was set up to forward port 80 requests to the old IP).
To add to the problem, I am not in the UK this year and have to get a friend to go round and fix any problems.
I am sorry for the inconvenience.
By the way, at the /typography/ directory there’s a link to a Telugu keyboard too. If any of you want to submit other fonts/layouts I’d be happy to put them up there too.
[Nicholas Shanks] : Oh, and I happened to hit on your site exactly during that period. My bad luck.
Great to know that the site is up again! Thanks!
