Rules do vary from place to place, but I don't feel that this is a region specific issue.

In the US or Europe, If the RIAA and such other guys succeed in putting an end to file sharing as we know it (They are trying!), its gonna be difficult for everybody including the people in the subcontinent and other places where there's no law against file sharing. Because, its a fact that most of the files that are shared are hosted on servers located in US or Europe (Atleast for now).

This brings us to the point that file sharing has to sustain in the west. The protest in Sweden is definitely a start. It actually is an amazingly simple issue. The people against file sharing have nothing they can bring to the table as an argument. All they can say is that artists are not getting the money they deserve. But, Seriously, I don't see Eminems or Timberlakes outside of stretch limos or huge yachts. And it is sometimes(?) true that file sharing actually improves sales. As we see in this case.

File sharing is a sensitive issue. since the rules vary from place to place, its really hard to keep track. I was reading somewhere, some chick in UK got fined to the tune of 99000$ for downloading 4 songs.
